In a recent webinar, we showed how address data tools help managers improve business performance in the following areas:

  1. Network Planning
  2. Asset Management
  3. Customer Acquisition and Retention
  4. Data Blending
  5. Mail and Parcel Delivery
  6. Fraud Reduction

1. Network Planning

Accurate address data plays a critical role in overcoming network planning challenges. We presented solutions at each of the following steps in the network planning process:

  1. Clean existing address data with US Address Verification
  2. Keep incoming data clean with US Address Autocomplete
  3. Map all addresses using our US Master Address List and hyper-accurate US Rooftop Geocoding
  4. Add context to maps with enriched US Property Data
  5. Analyze, get spatial insights, and make confident business decisions

2. Asset Management

For telecom and internet companies, asset management hinges on precise location data to deploy and maintain network infrastructure efficiently. A case study about alias addresses was presented to illustrate the challenges of accounting for network assets. We talked about SmartyKey™, a persistent unique identifier, as an efficient way of resolving address alias issues.

3. Customer Acquisition and Retention

In his book, ‘An Introduction to Urban Geographic Information Systems’, William Huxhold found that 80% of all data has a spatial component, which can be good news for marketers looking to pinpoint advertising, such as mailings and billboards. We also explored how enriched address data, a combination of property and census information, helps build a 360-degree view of the customer.

Additionally, we made the correlation between customer experience and retention and offered techniques for leveraging address data to improve experiences at pre and post-purchase.

4. Data Blending

Telecom and internet companies often have massive amounts of data entering multiple silos from multiple sources. Address data oftentimes conflicts from one incoming source to the next.

Despite these challenges, address verification makes it simple to standardize addresses in all silos. And SmartyKey™ makes it even easier to identify aliases. With a standardized address identified for each alias, data managers can easily blend data into one squeaky-clean source of address truth.

5. Mail and Parcel Delivery

Addresses entered online often contain mistakes, a problem compounded by increasing mobile use. However, address verification and autocomplete help ensure accurate deliveries, cutting shipping costs, duplicate handling, customer service issues, and churn.

Depending on the size of a database, the operational savings in mail and parcel delivery can be hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. One Smarty customer reported, “We saw our undeliverable shipping rate fall from 5% to less than 1%, which represents a ton of savings for us.”

 6. Fraud Reduction

Unfortunately, fraud is common among telecom and internet companies, amounting to a 2 percent loss of revenues for some. However, address verification and autocomplete can help detect fraudulent attempts early on, including schemes such as subscription, credit score, and offer fraud.

One of the most popular and successful movie franchises—by far—is George Lucas' Star Wars. The impact Star Wars has had on the culture of the United States and the rest of the world is incredible. From 1977 on, Hollywood has been producing large, fantastical blockbusters packed with practical and computer-generated special effects. Movies have started being considered based wholly on the merchandise they could sell. Toy laser swords have been selling like hotcakes, and every child finds themselves secretly trying to turn off the light from their bed using the Force.
Dealing with Address Data from Multiple Countries

In our recent webinar, we hosted Jeffrey Duncan, our Technical Product Manager, who discussed the complexities and nuances of managing address data across various international formats. While seemingly straightforward, addresses are quite complex, especially when dealing with international data. Jeffrey highlighted the variability in address formats, which can range from the number of address lines to the order of address components, differing significantly from one country to another. For instance, while a US address typically follows a structured format, addresses in countries like Germany or India can have a completely different setup, impacting data entry and management.
