About Our Data

Where does your data come from?

Our address data comes directly from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), including Residential Delivery Indicator (RDI), time zone, Delivery Point Validation (DPV), vacancy data, congressional district, and more.

Smarty (formerly SmartyStreets) now has our own index of latitude/longitude (geocoding) data from multiple sources. This data is a part of our US Rooftop Geocoding and US Reverse Geocoding API services.

How often is your data updated?

We receive monthly updates to our software from the USPS.

CASS Certified

Smarty is an official CASS-certified USPS vendor. The Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS) enables the USPS to evaluate the accuracy of software that corrects and matches street addresses. Once an address has been cleaned up, standardized, and verified as deliverable, you can be nearly 100% sure that it will be delivered as expected. (Of course things like meteorites, volcanoes, or a loose pack of rabid dogs can still cause delays to postal delivery. But at least you can say you did your best.)

Demographic Data

Smarty does not provide demographic data. However, we can provide a ZIP+9 for an address, which can then be used to find the demographic data for the area. Here is a list of organizations that offer demographic data by address:
