Do you verify international addresses?

Do you provide address verification services for countries besides the United States? Do you have any international services?

Answer

I have to begin with a few questions. What do you expect from International Address Verification? Do you want to know that the full address is valid and deliverable? Or are you only interested in knowing whether the city or street portion of the address is valid. For most countries there is no such thing as Delivery Point Verification (DPV). The local postal service just doesn't have the data at that level.

In fact, out of 241 mailing entities (I know there are only 196 official countries), there are only 12 that even have delivery point data available: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States.

That means that for 77% of the countries on this planet, the BEST possible address verification that you can achieve is to know that the street portion of the address does actually exist. Frankly that leaves a lot of work to do, and it comes down to the local postal service to gather that data. If the source data just isn't there, we can't provide it to you. Now, back to the question.

Presently we only provide address validation for US addresses. Our software will simply ignore any addresses outside the United States when scrubbing and standardizing. We hope to release support for other countries in the future, but this is a huge task which will require more consideration.

Meanwhile, a quick google search will give you the most popular providers of international address validation. We've looked at these a little but have not tried using them. Keep in mind that international address services may not verify the existence and validity of a given address like a USPS CASS-Certified™ product such as LiveAddress.
